Seasoning Your Protein | Meat Prep Part One 🥩🍗
Batch cooking high-quality lean proteins requires seasoning. 🧂
Let’s be honest — if you take the time to prepare and cook a large batch of proteins to separate and store for weeks to come, you aren’t going to be interested in eating them if they taste like plain ass cardboard. 📦 In this three-part series, I’m breaking down meat prep into bite-size pieces so you can take the stress off eating healthy.
So, let’s talk about seasoning. Sometimes the American culture gets a bad rap for not understanding how to properly season food. That’s not true in my household. 🙅‍♀️ We season food so it’s delicious and keeps it fun to eat healthy.
Did you know I’m a chef? 🧑‍🍳 Yep, I am a professional, private chef. I am passionate about helping people like you simplify eating because it tends to be an extreme stressor.
Has your partner ever asked you, “What’s for dinner,” after a long day of work? The response to that question often accompanies some sort of attitude and adds more to the mental load than you were already dealing with. That’s another reason I love meat prepping.
Additionally, I’ve been able to lose 95 pounds by cutting out the shit from my diet and prioritizing high-quality, lean meats. This hasn’t been easy to do and there aren’t any real hacks, but meat prepping definitely alleviates a lot of the pressure to eat healthy.
When choosing to work with lean meats, we lose a lot of the natural flavor with a lower fat ratio. The good news is, we have so many individual seasonings and blends at our fingertips.
Yes, I said seasoning blends!
Why should we make this harder on ourselves? Let’s work with the perfectly curated seasoning blends and use them to our advantage. They often save both money and time! However, one thing to watch out for with seasonings is anti-caking agents, added sugar, or unnecessary chemicals.
If you’re wanting to cook clean, healthy foods, I encourage you to find seasoning blends where you can confidently read and understand the ingredients list.
What Seasonings You Should Use:
Dan-O’s Seasoning Blends
Dan-O’s has a variety of seasonings with no sugar, MSG, gluten, or GMO ingredients. Plus, they have 50mg of sodium or less per ¼ tsp serving size, if you’re trying to watch your salt intake, this is perfect for you! 🧂
Chef James Seasonings
Chef James is local to me which is a huge plus, but he has over 30 years of cooking experience to bring you the freshest most flavorful, and authentic seasoning blends!
Farmer’s Market Vendors
I find a lot of my creative seasoning blends from local vendors at the farmer’s market. This is a fun way to get out of the house, do a little retail therapy, and bring home something that you will actually use to your benefit.
Thrive Market Blends
I love shopping at Thrive Market because they are affordable, often have organic ingredients, and are always non-GMO. You can get $40 off your first order with Thrive Market here!
There are so many more options for seasonings, but these are the ones I use the most in my kitchen and what I will be using in this series. As a reminder, you can totally use individual seasonings like garlic, salt, pepper, onion powder, etc., but I’m all about simplifying life and that’s why I love utilizing these blends.
